Jeff Boss served thirteen years in SEAL Teams across eight deployments, receiving four Bronze Stars with Valor and two Purple Hearts. He now works as a leadership coach and business performance coach. He lives in Washington, D.C.

My Roadmap Towards Success - Great Book

Navigating Chaos is a must read for any organizational leader or aspiring one with a goal/objective to be successful. Yes, that statement is ambiguous on purpose. I could write a mini-book on the value and lessons Jeff Boss delivers in his book, but I wouldn't be doing it justice (no pun intended).
We live and conduct business daily with new information, new decisions to make and new technology to adapt to. At the same time many of us constantly feeling like more needs to get done and there is a constant struggle to manage the chaos that surrounds us. Jeff's tone, personality and humorous anecdotes compliment his descriptive stories that will humble the smartest and toughest individuals alive. He is able to take the reader on a journey that feels familiar, yet couldn't be further from the truth considering the majority of corporate leaders have never experienced what he and his Navy Seal teammates did. The lessons and values he preaches apply directly to sound business fundamentals and how to live a better life.
I am on my second round of reading what I consider to be a roadmap to become a better husband, father, business leader and person. After reading Navigating Chaos, I am humbly reminded on the importance of transparency, communication and that learning process never ends.
If you have made it this far with reading my review, go the extra step and purchase a copy of this book. You will not be disappointed and you will find yourself referring it to others.

Dynamic and Extraordinary book about managing chaos!

If you are looking for an Awe-Inspiring, Captivating book and tips about how to be better at handling situations (Chaos) in your life, then this IS the book for you! I read the entire book, cover to cover in 2 days; making notes on over three quarters of the 275 pages.
The principles in the book relate to every person, regardless of what your ‘job’ is or where you are in life. Reading the book put me on the edge of my seat most of the way through, as Jeff described so many details of the missions he went on; it was like I was there with the TEAM. It is amazing how Jeff correlates his military experience back to how companies and you can improve.
The premise of the book is based on 4 pillars of performance: Physical (Habits, health, rest, nutrition); Mental (Focus, mental fortitude, learning); Emotional (Passion, emotional, intelligence, resilience); and Spiritual (Purpose, fulfillment, visualization).
Quote from page 5: “The secret is to keep the performance capabilities (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual) fulfilled, as doing so sustains energy levels to perform, adapt and to lead”.
While there are far too many incredible words and quotes in the book, here are a few ‘takeaways’ that put me on ‘stun’ for a moment; words that made me sit back, breathe and take it all in before I could continue on to the next section: Page 32 – Leadership; Page 39-43 – Purpose; Page 52 – Passion; Page 58-61 – 12 points about passionate people; Page 67 – 5 C’s of chaos; Page 70 – Tactical Patience; Page 145 – Humility; Page 215-217 – The Door; Page 235-248 – The SEAL Secret Sauce.
Last, but not least: Quote from page 275: “there’s always opportunity in chaos”.
Don’t pass on this book, as it is too good not to have in your collection of incredible and super reads.

Just Buy It.

I couldn’t put this book down! Through his writing Jeff is able to reach and talk to an audience and help them in a way that very few can. There is no bravado in the book and you can feel his desire to simply help people through sharing the lessons he learned through his travels in the Special Operations community. His stories are on point, his writing is amazing, and the principles discussed are relevant to any professional and most organizations.
Buy the book, you won’t regret it.
