About the Author
Roger Donaldson is a high profile director of movies, from home-grown Kiwi movies, such as Sleeping Dogs and Smash Palace, to Hollywood blockbusters such as Cocktail, Cadillac Man, and The Bank Job—not to mention The World's Fastest Indian. Originally trained as a geologist, he soon turned his attention to photography and advertising and then on to his real passion, film-making. This is an incredible collection of photos, stories and quotes from Burt Munro. If you loved the movie, you have to get this book! It is a gold mine of motorcycle history, not just about Burt, but covering many of the greats you've heard about. Get it!

A Book of broad appeal

A great read, both informative and entertaining!

The brief chapters are especially helpful to those who must read in bits and pieces, enabling the reader to easily complete a given character treatment in just a few minutes.

As a Pastor with over 30 year's experience, I realize I bring a different perspective than some others might. However, it seems to me that this is a valuable read for every Christian from scholar to novice. It well may be of value to non-Christians with an interest in Biblical history, also.

There is enough depth of scholarship and content to make it both enjoyable and useful for the serious Bible student. However, even a Biblical novice, who may miss the impact of some of the allusions in Rev. Cole-Rous's writing, will come away with a better understanding of the humanity of people in the Bible, the context of their lives, and the relationships among Biblical characters which are not readily apparent in a casual reading of the text nor usually amplified by consulting commentaries.

I especially appreciate the brief and low key life application material at the end of each character's treatment.

Nice tool for your preaching tool box or just good to know information for those that seek God's character through the lesser known people of the Bible.

Jim Cole-Rous gives excellent background to some of the characters and events of the Bible that really helps the reader to understand that the sovereign hand of God has been at work throughout the history of the Bible.
Each story is a reminder that God is in control and is still guiding people to a personal relationship with Him through His Son, Jesus.

Zachary Leader has published widely on nineteenth- and twentieth-century literature. Among his books are Revision and Romantic Authorship (1996), Romantic Period Writings 1798-1832: An Anthology (co-edited with Ian Haywood) (1999), and (as editor) The Letters of Kingsley Amis (2000). Michael O'Neill has published widely on Romantic and twentieth-century poetry. Among his books are The Human Mind's Imaginings: Conflict and Achievement in Shelley's Poetry (1989), Percy Bysshe Shelley: A Literary Life (1989). and Romanticism and the Self-Conscious Poem (1997).

Fantastic collecion for Shelley enthusiasts

This is a comprehensive collection of Shelley's works including plays, poems and other works. Recommend for the Shelley enthusiast, casual Shelley fan and anyone majoring in English (BA, MA, PhD...) very useful resource for myself, classmates and my professors (I am an English MA student myself.) Includes both well known works (Promethius Unbound, Ozymandias etc etc..) as well as some perhaps lesser known works (Mask of Anarchy...)
Very nice collection for any personal library, especially for the price.

Best one-volume Shelley anthology so far

First the complaints. One, the Introduction is a meager 14 pages which cannot, and does not, do justice to a poet such as Shelley. the Intro leaves me wanting a lot more. In fact, it makes me positively pine for the kind of introductions for which both Catedra and Castalia (two Spanish Publishing Houses) are justly famous among scholars and students: a talented rebel and rake-hell like Shelley deserves at least 80 pages worth of intro. One chooses to read fourteen or fifty, but the offering should be commensurate with the artist.

Two, I wanted the entire original text of LAON AND CYTHNA to be included here; it isn't. We have the original two initial cantos and then original ms copies of notes and drafts. It's a good effort, but not the whole poem. Now I'm starting to doubt the entire original that Shelley sent to his publisher before he was prevailed-upon to change it even exists. In defense of this edition, the back-cover blurb warns readers that Laon and Cythna is excerpted.

My two complaints are not enough to rate this effort any less than five stars, however. The paper could have been of better quality and so could the cover. Now that I'm at it, the painting on the cover could, and should, be replaced. But the texts included are a treasure. This anthology is indeed the best one-volume anthology of Shelley available. With 135 pages of notes to help in the understanding of the poems, the poet, and his times, there is no reason not to buy it if you like the Romantics, or Shelley, or good poetry, period.

I highly recommend this book to any serious student of Scripture

Very interesting book by a man who was a controversial figure in the Christian world in the mid-1900's. I Don't agree with some of Branham's theories in this book (the "Serpent seed" theory for instance); but I believe Branham was right on target with his analysis of what are the deeds and doctrine of the Nicolaitans (the ONLY two things in the New Testament that Jesus is quoted as HATING), and his description of what is the doctrine of Balaam, and the truly injurious effects these two doctrines have had on the life of the Body of Christ over the past 2,000 years. I highly recommend this book to any serious student of Scripture. And I caution any reader to definitely be ready to 'eat the chicken' and 'spit out the bones' on Branham's thoughts. When Branham is 'right', he is right on target with dazzling accuracy. And when he is wrong..... watch out....
