Sussna’s “Designing Delivery” is an important call-to-action for organizations of all sizes. Instead of relying on hierarchical, efficiency-oriented I.T. departments inspired by the management philosophy of Frederic Taylor, companies now need I.T. to be adaptable, responsive partners with a focus on customer empathy. Sussna traces the journey from scientific management and top-down complicated systems, to more agile, complex systems that are “sloppy … yet highly resilient.”

Sussna introduces the readers to cybernetics and the impact of assuming that our unpredictable world requires continually processing (and responding to) feedback. He intermingles the concept of empathy and contends that projects and organizations struggle when they do not learn and evolve through conversations with customers. Sussna explains the concepts of Continuous Integration, DevOps and microservices to demonstrate a responsive way of thinking.

He spends a significant portion of the book focusing on quality and the evolution of traditional QA and testing roles. Sussna sees quality as building the right thing, not just building something right. Modern QA thinking is focused on the customer and the job they are hiring the company to do. Instead of being a segregated group with an adversarial relationship with developers, QA must be a deeply embedded in all aspects of a modern service organization. Designing Delivery is a marvelous book and a must read. A unique, distinctive and concrete approach combining and orchestrating different theoretical perspectives in an holistic and coherent viewpoint. From service-dominant logic to the promise theory, the present - and the future of IT (and relevant frameworks: agile, devops, design and system thinking, continuous delivery...) - is envisioned in a clear map of its mutual interconnections. I strongly recommend the book to C-level, executives and managers facing the transformation toward a digital service business and an agile organization.

I was not sure what to expect from Designing Delivery as I browsed through the Table of Contents. Following @jeffsussna on Twitter for several years, I sort of expected a book more geared towards the IT world. I was pleasantly surprised that it embodied more of a Customer-Service-Centered approach that touched upon Jeff’s interpretation of services as related to design. His breadth of knowledge of Cybernetics, Promise Theory, Service Design, SD-Logic, DevOps is extensive based on the simplicity of his explanations of each and ability to integrate between them. He also added a nice balance of real-world stories to theory making it a very informal read.

An IT person would be influenced by Jeff’s approach to delivery of services and people outside of IT would gain an understanding of the above mentioned subject matter and the relationship they have with IT or development in general.

Michener’s books always left me with a feeling to learn more about a subject. Though, I am not ready to compare him to Michener; Jeff left me with a similar feeling. I wanted to learn more about the subjects he wrote about. It is one of the best compliments; I can give an author.

Helpful, but not what I was hoping.

This book could be a nice refresher, but mainly it seems useful to someone who is taking a signals and systems class, who is a already up to speed, who wants a little better understanding of the material then their textbook or professor provides.

I was hoping for a quick reference, that explains signals and systems operations step by step in a clear and concise manner. I wanted a book with some examples worked out and explained from beginning to end. Most of all, I wanted a book that included refreshers of the math required for each calculation. This book is none of those things. I've never read a "For Dummies" book before, but I took the name at face value. In truth, I found it helpful, but only because I was already familiar with the material. If I had been coming in without a long list of prerequisites, this book would be next to useless.

Beware. The files associated with the text are unavailable

I would have given the book one star but that would just be giving in to an emotional response. Honestly, the book appears from the onset to be a very solid text. However, the online content mentioned in chapter one that accompanies the text is seemingly not available anymore - the modules created by the author, i.e., python (ssd.py) & maxima (ssd.wxm).

For those of you that are hands on learners (like myself). The missing content that is provided to supplement the text, takes away from the overall experience, thus the two stars.

For what it's worth. I initially attempted to leave a message on the author's Amazon page. Amazon however prompted me with a message stating the page was not a recognized web page and failed to execute my message. That said, if I can get access to the associated files I would be willing to increase my rating.

High Nutritional Value

I've never particularly appreciated the "for Dummies" branding, it is unappealing and derogatory to me. However, there is no denying the marketing success of this series. This is the first "Dummies" book to which I have have been exposed... and it is surprisingly intelligent! I now see the title terminology is certainly cheeky, but not derogatory at all. It is simply a means of stated that the information within the book is meant for those that have had little exposure to the topic, a beginner perhaps. Signals & Systems for Neophytes, perhaps.

The information contained within is golden. The introduction is paced well with a quick brush up of fundamental math and a high level discussion of discrete and continuous time signals. Next the book lowers the reader into the topic of the time domain, which contains a bit of differential and difference equations. Don't worry though, everything is still manageable and presented in a clear manner.

The book then progresses into more difficult topics: line spectra, Fourier transforms, and sampling theory. Some topics may be a little much, but the reader will indefinitely be able to hold an intelligent conversation on the subjects after reading these chapters.

I can't help but give this book 5 stars. It's a complicated subject and 350 pages is not a lot of space to cover it. But all 350 pages are packed from edge to edge with signal nutrition. If you have a reasonable mathematical background, you are interested in the subject, and are ready to lay down a solid base of knowledge, this book comes highly recommended.

Great text for practicing Arabic verbs

I only just received this book in the mail, but it looks great! There are very few available resources for helping students learn the Arabic verb system, so this is a welcome addition. FANTASTIC

This workbook was exactly what I needed. The rules are broken down into tiny, digestible pieces. Those are then followed by plenty of practice. The book gives you a lot of useful verbs (and other parts of speech)to work with that you learn through repetition. I'm currently halfway through it and have made a large leap in my understanding of Arabic verbs. And I've preordered the other three books in this series. Oh, yeah: I couldn't complain about the price, either, for such well-explained and useful study practice.

Great way to learn Arabic past tense!!

I didn't think this workbook was going to be good, and when I started I started getting into it. I really like the way its set up. I think this book is awesome to learn past tenses in Arabic. It would have been nice if it came with a CD but anyways I really recommend it.

Una historia de amor, una novela policiaca y un final sorpresivo.

Me gustó la redacción. Esta novela no está escrita de una forma tradicional. Hay párrafos que se repiten a través de la lectura, pero no están de sobra. Es una redacción jovial, con múltiples facetas donde el lector puede encontrar desde situaciones cómicas y groseras, hasta momentos de angustia y terror. Se entretejen momentos donde se disfruta la descripción de situaciones amorosas realmente hermosas. La historia ocurre en tres tiempos diferentes.

Marcus - el personaje principal, es un escritor joven que busca a Harry Quebert, su profesor universitario para que le ayude a superar un momento difícil al resultarle imposible resolver una situación de falta de creatividad para crear un libro que tiene que entregar a la editorial en pocas semanas.

Simultáneamente, el libro describe las situaciones que se dan en el pequeño pueblo al descubrirse el cadaver de una chica de quince años que desapareció hace más de tres décadas. La novela narra no sólo la trama principal que ocurre en Aurora - un pequeño pueblo costeño al noreste de New Hampshire, muy cerca de La frontera con Canada- También incluye situaciones cómicas estiló Woody Allen cuando interactúa con su madre telefónicamente, y con su editor.

La trama se va complicando pues en su intento de escribir su libro, va encontrando pistas de lo ocurrido en ese pequeño pueblo en agosto de 1975.

Esta es la segunda novela de Joel Dicker, sin embargo según entiendo es la primera que traducen al español. En mi personal opinión es una muy buena opción de lectura, en 2013 hay dos libros que he visto que estan de moda Perdida y esta, que he tenido de leer, a mi se me hizo de mejor historia, coherencia y credibilidad la de "La Verdad Sobre el Caso de Harry Quebert", La narración es diferente, interesante, inclusive hay momentos en que pareciera que es un caso real y te hace disfrutar mucho y leer rapido para saber que fue lo que sucedio. En algunos lugares lo ponen como un sucesor de Stieg Larsson de la trilogia de milenio, pero en lo personal, salvo que le autor es Sueco el tema no es tan obscuro como la trilogia de Millenium. El protagonista es muy diferente por lo que siento que algunos que esten buscando algo similar pueden confundirse por los comentarios de algunas personas.
