OK, but not Great!

I taught social studies for two years before taking the class that required me to read this book, so I was looking forward to learning more, but this book did not help with that. The book was very dry and boring. Also, it talked about the things to teach without giving good examples of HOW to teach it. I would not recommend this book to anyone who is looking for help with teaching social studies.

This is a super text for implementation into a social studies methods course.

The lesson examples are from local teachers and are tried and true. There is no other text that I would rather utilized in my graduate social studies methods course.

About the Author

Kathleen Blais received her Diploma in nursing from Temple University Hospital School of Nursing (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), her BSN and MSEd from Florida International University (Miami, Florida), MSN from the University of Miami (Miami, Florida), and Ed.D. from Florida Atlantic University (Boca Raton, Florida). She has taught in both undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. Dr. Blais has held faculty and academic leadership positions throughout her career. She is currently a Professor Emerita of Nursing at Florida International University College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

Janice Hayes received her BSN from the University of Evansville, MSN from Indiana University, and PhD from Purdue University. She has taught both in undergraduate and graduate nursing programs as well as providing research leadership with clinical institutions. Dr. Hayes has maintained a research trajectory in the areas of development risk and trauma outcomes. She is currently the Assistant Director for Graduate Programs in the School of Nursing at the University of Northern Colorado.

Very useful information for my class with Wilmington University (Nurse as Professional). The book is well written and well organized. The chapters are clear and concise. The book contains useful information as I pursue my BSN.

Probably could have done without it.

Bought it because the class required it but I didn't really find it all that useful. I felt that most of the information in the book mirrored what an Internet search would. I mostly used it as a supplemental citation resource and even that was minimal.

About the Author
Anthony Marcus is an Associate Professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice of the City University of New York. He has published widely on urban public policy, American legal history, African American history and culture, and economic and social development in America and abroad. His book, Where Have All the Homeless Gone: The Making and Unmaking of a Crisis looks at political discourses on poverty and public policy from the Great Depression to the Clinton era.
John M. Giggie is an Associate Professor of history at the University of Alabama. His published works include articles on nineteenth-century America, southern U.S. history, and U.S. religion, as well as his recently published books After Redemption: Jim Crow and the Transformation of African American Religion in the Delta, 1875–1915  and Faith in the Market: Religion and the Rise of Urban Commercial Culture. His current research projects include African American religion and the Civil War; early blues music; and religion and the civil rights movement. David Burner, late professor of history at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, wrote two books on John F. Kennedy, as well as books on Herbert Hoover, the 1960s, the Democratic Party in the 1920s, and a number of textbooks.
