This short book, really more of an essay or a long article, will delight fans of Douglas Harding and his profound and sometimes difficult major work--"The Hierarchy of Heaven And Earth". Many ideas discussed in the Hierarchy book reappear here in an engaging, easier-to-read follow up work which consists of a dialogue among Socrates and four moderns--two scientists, one psychologist, and a theologian. Here you'll find many fascinating ideas to ponder about our identity in (and with) the world and their implications for viewing life with value and meaning, and living a life open to its Source. The Visible World

An amazing book by Mr. Harding!!! I have been a fan and reader for years, and my only regret is that this book is unavailable as a hard copy. Reading the electronic version is a chore predicated upon the availability of technical devices and support. I find a book, with paper and print, far superior. Despite that, the content is extraordinary. If you don't see the world differently after reading this material, you aren't really looking..

The Tulsa Thunderbirds series is a spin-off series from USA Today bestselling author Catherine Gayle's Portland Storm series. Storm fans can expect some familiar characters, lots of hockey action, and the same emotional backdrop in a sexier, edgier package.

The same general trigger warning applies to this series, as the books tackle serious issues such as sex trafficking, PTSD, and physical abuse. Additionally, I have another warning for you. The hockey players in the Tulsa Thunderbirds series curse like...well...like hockey players. Also, there is a fair amount of sex in these books. If sex and cursing aren't your cup of tea, these books likely won't be, either.

You do not need to have read the Storm series to follow the Thunderbirds series, and vice versa. Each novel in the Thunderbirds series can stand alone, although your enjoyment will be enhanced by reading them in order.

Satisfying Romance, Problem Hero

I've read a number of Catherine Gayle's hockey romances and so far I've liked or loved all of them. I enjoyed Smoke Signals too, but there was one scene near the beginning that very nearly did me in. I did continue reading, and I did enjoy it on the whole, but thinking back I still find that scene extremely problematic. I don't see any other reviews that mention it, which is why I'm going to be a bit explicit. So, some SPOILERS AHEAD!

Razor and Tori meet in Vegas when Tori, in desperation and thinking she could be deported back to Russia, propositions Razor. She used to be a porn star, so she tries to convince herself that being a prostitute is not going to be much different - sex for money. Razor's mom was a prostitute, so he feels an instant understanding for her situation and a need to protect Tori. He refuses her offer, but proposes that they get married instead to protect her from deportation. Tori is really scared and unwilling, but without any other options she finally agrees and they go that evening and get hitched. Then they go back to Razor's hotel room.

This is where I had real issues with the storyline. Tori knows that Razor is attracted to her and figures that all she's done made a trade whereby she gets to stay in the US and Razor gets to use her body for sex. She wants to just get it over with, so when they get to the hotel room she comes on to Razor even though she really, really doesn't want to have sex. Razor is *all for it* - apparently he now doesn't notice that she's scared out of her mind? - and they get as far as penetration. The ONLY reason Razor stops is that he realizes that Tori is in *physical pain* - NOT because she absolutely doesn't want to have sex with him.

This was a huge, major, screaming problem for me! I was literally horrified the whole time I was reading it, thinking that right about now Razor was finally going to realize that Tori was nowhere near ready to jump into bed with him and that the only reason she's doing so is because she feels obligated - but he doesn't!!! And this, when he's already been set up as a character who can see how scared Tori is because of his mom! The implication that, had Tori not been in *physical* pain, Razor would have gone through with it and bought into Tori's pretence of wanting to go to bed with him, honestly almost killed it for me. This is not the action of a romance hero. And I found it extremely, extremely problematic that the physical aspects of Tori's problems with sex were so front and centre, while her equally obvious emotional issues aren't dealt with quite as explicitly. It's all about her physical incapability to enjoy sexual activity, not so much her emotional state. Her emotional state *does* get dealt with - Razor gets a lot better at things after that first go - and ultimately I found the romance satisfying, but that scene... that scene very nearly killed it for me. I still hate it whenever I think about it.

Also, Tori went through a lot of horrifying abuse when she was in the porn industry. I generally love the storyline of an abused/scared heroine finding her hero - one of the reasons I picked this one up, in fact - but some of the things that happened to her were really awful, and that just made Razor's unheroic-ness that first night stand out all the more.

Gripping with raw emotional situations, that will suck you in and hold you captive right to the very end!

I don't know why, but this story was so emotional for me. More so than any of Catherine Gayle's other books. The details were so painful to read about, but I DID get through it.... and I'm so happy I did. Razor was so brass in all the other books, but he sure redeemed himself in my eyes, that's for darn sure!!!

Tori was sent to the U.S by her father to go to study ballet and also so she could escape a fate no one should have to bear. Her father knew that that was the only way to keep her safe from the Russian Mob. They were after her and her mother so they could use them in a human trafficing ring they were running. She did escape, but in the process both of her parents were brutely killed. After her father was killed, her funds had had been depleteed, so she had to turn to doing things to survive that no one should ever have to resort to doing. After her dreams of becoming a ballerina came to a halt, so did her other means of survival. She heads off to Las Vegas to become a prostitue, but only because it was the only other way she knew of in order to make enough money to survive on. But the first person she runs into that night just happened to be, Razor, a man who took one look at her and instantly knew that there was more behind this woman's actions than really meets the eye.

Razor was so sweet and understanding through this whole thing; he just made me want to melt. And Tallie, I could really kiss that woman for not only not judging her, but also for standing up for her when Tori needed it the most. I also loved Razor's mom, what a woman!!! I loved how Razor kept describing his mother's all business kind of stances....just too funny. But the woman had real back bone to her, probably because she could relate to Tori and what she had been through just to survive. Her and Razor's personal talks on the phone about protection was totally hilarious, too. I also loved Dimas and the way her befriended Tori when so many others turn their back on her. I can't wait to read his story now, because I have a feeling there's really something very deep & dark going on with him, too.

As an added bonus, the early scenes in the book take place at the wedding of Babs and Katie, beloved characters from the Portland Storm series, and if you loved that series...then you'll definitley love this spin-off series!

Let me just preface that I love Catherine’s hockey related story lines and go a bit crazy with her books/audio books, so to say I’m a fan is a bit understated.

Smoke Signals (Tulsa Thunderbirds #2)

I wanted to “strongly dislike” Viktoriya “Tori” Dubrovskaya once I read the synopsis of the book. Of course, part of me felt extremely terrible for her reasons to leave Russia but when Tori turns to her “only options” to survive and stay in the country, I almost stopped reading (dang you Catherine for reeling me in with Ray Chambers aka Razor). Although Razor can be seen as this easy going, jokester, Ray really is a sweet and very protective guy (especially his mom, Tori, and his friends). I’m looking forward for to more of Catherine’s books but I think my heart will always belong to Portland though..

Right Product, but only part of the product I was looking for

These CDs worked fine and the packaging and shipping were great. However, I didn't realize that these are only half of the CDs for the textbook...so keep that in mind when purchasing.

Great book!

This book and audio CD were required for a French Phonetics class at my university. I am fluent in French but wanted to improve my pronunciation. Our course was supplemented by material from the professor, but this book was the main resource that we had.
The text is well written and gives very good explanations. Some of them had to be read a few times, but those sections were also more complicated, such as the liaisons falcultatives/interdites/obligatoires. The attention to detail was appreciated, though there are some organs that are not mentioned in the picture of the "organes de la parole" but the necessity of those could depend on the course. It is meant for relatively advanced french speakers, as the entire book is in french and basically assumes you have a good understanding of the language and wish to focus on your pronunciation.

I really like the CD that is included with the book. For me personally, I struggle with differentiating between certain vowel sounds in french. This is a big issue because the pronunciation of a vowel can change the entire word. I loved the exercises that required you to listen to a word and identify the sound, they really helped me recognizes the differences, while the book explained how to recreate them. The book is also great in its explanations of english versus french and gives many helpful explanations of why american english speakers study with certain aspects of french pronunciation, and also told you how to avoid them.

Overall, a very comprehensive text with good exercises that helped me exponentially in my french pronunciation. I decided to keep it after the class was over so that I can use it later and continue to practice my pronunciation.

Computer won't play the discs.

This CD set was needed for a class on French phonetics and diction. The CDs work with a basic CD player, but not with my computer, which doesn't even recognise them. Instead of opening a media player and hearing it, the disc reader churns for several moments and spits back the disc. The discs I'm using were brand new in the packaging, so there's no excuse for them not to work in my laptop.

Well over 25 years on the Street and I have to say - a must read for all market traders, seasoned floor traders to the novice e-trader. Equities, commodities, day-traders, swing traders, whatever. The author has thoughtfully grasped what is required to be successful in trading - control of one's mind and emotions. Hardware, software, ability to read technicals, etc, is only a small percentage of what makes a successful (long-term profitable) trader and what makes a trader able to evolve with the markets.

Great income advice!

The book Passive Income written by Lance MacNeil is a good reference of money making ideas. I like what the author in the book 'the true secret of wealth is not that you have more money' but have more freedom and one way to do this is by shifting from linear income to passive income. The book suggests possible passive income earning ideas as well as the pros and cons of it. But passive income does not necessarily mean easy work, if you're just starting you need to work hard to build it. This may not be an overnight success but now is the great time to start.

Beginning doesn't mean for beginners

If you are a beginner to HTML and CSS - this is not your book. It has been quite a number of years since I had done any web development so I decided to pick it back up with HTML 5. Though the title says "beginning" it isn't for beginners or those needing a refresher. The author assumes prior experience with HTML 4 and this was quite clear from the first chapter. Therefore, this one goes back so that I can look into something more fit for my particular needs. I can't speak for its usefulness to someone more experienced but the title definitely doesn't accurately convey who the intended audience is.

Very thorough guide to modern web technologies

I should state first that I was the tech reviewer for this book, so this review carries the risk of being biased, but I wanted to post a review to help spread the word. This book was a long time coming, but that time was well spent - the information contained in here represents some of the most thorough, well-researched writing on modern web technologies I have seen. The layout and animation chapters for example encompass over 160 pages between the two of them, with Oli Studholme covering every available property and function, along with lots of useful real world examples, and useful tricks and tactics you can use to solve various coding problems, some of them quite tricky.

I am very experienced with CSS3 and HTML5, but I still learned a lot, and I would advise that anyone wanting a detailed guide that they can refer to again and again should consider picking this up.

Fantastic book, even for non-beginners

Although I have years of experience on front-end web development, I got my hands on this book after a colleague pointed it to me as a great resource to get up to date regarding web technologies.
This book is a collection of everything HTML5 and CSS3 brings, explained in a simple and casual tone. What surprised me the most was the breadth and depth of knowledge. Sections progress from explaining the basics using snippets of code and illustrations, to explaining every detail of new properties. Now that browsers are finally catching up with these technologies, the content of this book is not only up to date, it is ahead in some aspects. It finished off with an essay about... the future of CSS, CSS4.

All in all, if you're interested in certain aspects of HTML5 and CSS3 this book gives a good explanation about them and serves as a good reference book in the future.

Can't get enough of this series...

Ok, so I just have to say that I am totally in love with the relationship between Jaquelyn and Fane. I mean, it's everything women want. He absolutely cherishes her and they are everything to each other. The first book was great, and this was one just as good and totally left me waiting for the next installment. I bought this book last night and sadly it is now over. I should have paced myself better! This is such a great series and at such a great price.

An Intriguing Read

Jacque is looking forward to completing her mating bond with Fane now that the alpha of Coldspring has been defeated. Fane is her other half in every way that counts but she knows the ritual will seal that fact with every ounce of certainty possible. Her anxiety grows as time draws near for the ceremony to be completed. Her two best friends, Jen and Sally, are also there by her side in hopes of helping her keep her emotions at bay until the moment she and Fane can be made as one.

News of her upcoming rituals spreads far and wide and Jacque soon learns who her true father is. Much to her chagrin, Vasile is intent on protecting her at all costs, even if it means putting a stop to her mating bond with Fane. This is something she will not allow.

As she and the others head out for the coming ritual, no one ever imagined that Jacque's life would hang in the balance. She, her mother, and her best friends soon come to harm, setting off a chain reaction that has every werewolf in the distance on their guard. Suspicions rise as everyone tries to figure out the culprit behind the incident.

When Jacque goes missing, its up to Fane and the others to find her before anything else happens. This, unfortunately, is easier said than done. Yet her safety is of the utmost importance and Fane will stop at nothing until he has her back within his arms.

I didn't have the luxury of reading the first book in the series since I received this book via a blog tour that I was part of but I have to say it won't ruin anything for me once I eventually read it. With that said, this was quite an intriguing read. Granted, there were a couple instances that had me scratching my head and wondering what was going on, like Jen's having beer in the hospital and Jacque's waking up as if nothing really serious had happened. All in all, the book is a good read despite the small inconsistencies.

this book was freaking awesome. what a beautiful love story and for once a book where the main couple doesnt have to push each other away cause , " they cant be together " for some stupid unknown reason. the ending was breathtaking and the characters are downright hilarious sometimes. this is my new favorite werewolve series. hands down.
