This was my English textbook as a High School senior in Cuba, back in 1955. It was out of print by that time, but the nun who was teaching us was ADAMANT and refused to use any other. So she had us get copies from older students.
It is old fashioned, and young people today will probably find it dull. But English is still English, and good writing remains a goal to be attained deliberately and systematically. I learned a lot from it, and still enjoy perusing it.

Impressive top notch concept art book

[[VIDEOID:31248761]]The first thing I noticed about the Massive Black art book is that it's titled Volume 1. It's safe to guess that there's going to be other volumes in the future. That is great because this book is very good.

The book is a paperback edition housed inside a slipcase. There are 192 pages and they are relatively glossy. The binding is great too. This book is a fingerprint magnet, and I left a few when I first held it.

Right at the start is an inspiring company's history. You'll get to read about how they started the company with $6000 to build it to a world class art studio where their art workshops look no different from rock concerts.

Inside the pages contain an impressive portfolio of illustrations and concept art created for too many clients. There are character designs, environment paintings and 3D modelings. The level of technical quality is top notch, of course.

Because the clients are mainly from the movie and gaming industry, most of the art pieces relate to the fantasy and sci-fi genre, oftentimes dark. It's like entering a different world just by looking at the paintings, the characters.

Massive Black Volume 1 has managed to put a smile of art lust and fascination on my face. It's highly recommended for concept artists, art directors, video game art lovers and people who just like good art.

The quality of the book is very good. The slip cover works well to protect the book
and he printing is very nice the wide range of art done in the book is super and
I really feel this is a must for any one wanting to learn to do Character Design to
see examples of some very ideas developed nicely.

INTRUSION DETECTION AND CORRELATION: Challenges and Solutions presents intrusion detection systems (IDSs) and addresses the problem of managing and correlating the alerts produced.  This volume discusses the role of intrusion detection in the realm of network security with comparisons to traditional methods such as firewalls and cryptography. 

The Internet is omnipresent and companies have increasingly put critical resources online.  This has given rise to the activities of cyber criminals. Virtually all organizations face increasing threats to their networks and the services they provide.  Intrusion detection systems (IDSs) take increased pounding for failing to meet the expectations researchers and IDS vendors continually raise.  Promises that IDSs are capable of reliably identifying malicious activity in large networks were premature and never tuned into reality. 

While virus scanners and firewalls have visible benefits and remain virtually unnoticed during normal operations, the situation is different with intrusion detection sensors.  State-of-the-art IDSs produce hundreds or even thousands of alerts every day.  Unfortunately, almost all of these alerts are false positives, that is, they are not related to security-relevant incidents.

INTRUSION DETECTION AND CORRELATION: Challenges and Solutions analyzes the challenges in interpreting and combining (i.e., correlating) alerts produced by these systems.  In addition, existing academic and commercial systems are classified; their advantage and shortcomings are presented, especially in the case of deployment in large, real-world sites.

INTRUSION DETECTION AND CORRELATION: Challenges and Solutions is designed for a professional audience composed of researchers and practitioners in industry.   This book is also suitable for graduate-level students in computer science.

Quiet Strength

Each of the characters in Whasian is distinctive and comes to life on the page. The realistic dialogue keeps the novel flowing between shifting viewpoints. Showing three points of view helps the reader understand more aspects of the story and makes their relationships more dynamic. Whasian had me smiling at moments with the interactions between friends and then sitting on the edge of my seat when Ava read the diary or confronted her mother. The novel was truly eye-opening to the Amerasian experience, demonstrating both the struggles and the gifts of such a life. One of my favorite moments is when Li zhi says that Ava has “quiet strength” – that resonates with Ava throughout the novel. It is great to see how that strength gradually gets louder.

A wonderful first novel by Ms. Stoffers.

Ava's struggle to make sense of her racial identity and societal expectations are complicated by an abusive and controlling mother and an aloof father. Through Ava's eyes, readers learn how cultural stereotypes, even positive ones, can negatively impact individuals and that appearances are not always what they seem. Ava's growth throughout the novel ultimately provides her with the strength and courage to confront her mother and reconcile with her father. An inspirational story!
