One hell of a first novel: not for the weak at heart!

This book grabbed me by the throat by about chapter three or four and wouldn't let go. There are books that matter to me because the language captures me and I want to read aloud the phrases I love most...there are books that matter to me because I can't put them down...and there are books that matter to me because they make me feel lost in the world they create. This one was all three. I was so deeply entrenched that when I got to an upsetting part (it's horror meets dark fantasy) I was literally furious with the author for maybe a day until I was removed enough to remember that it is FICTION and that nothing bad had actually happened. To me, that's quite an artistic accomplishment! This is the first in a trilogy and I can't wait for the next two.

Soolie Beetch and the Dying Light is enthralling, engaging and impossible to put down. I had to read it twice, once just because I could not sleep without finding out what happens next, and the second to really let myself sink into the amazing story. This book is fantasy-fiction at it's very finest. The world is exquisitely crafted, and yet the characters are heartbreakingly real in every sense. It is everything I want in a book; intense, sweet, sad, funny, horrifying, and an escape. Not for the faint of heart (things gets *dark*) this book is a superb first novel, and I honestly don't know if I can wait for the series to continue.

Worth it, want more!

As a avid reader, I go through a lot of books over the course of the year. This book is a stand out. Imaginative with great descriptions the writer gave me characters I felt I could relate to and care about, a rarity. Soolie is strong and trying to protect those she loves while trying to survive. The world the author has created is described in such a way I had no trouble seeing it and being there, with none of the jarring inconsistencies some other popular authors through out because they didn't take the time to research their devices to find out if it would really work like that or not. Recommended.

Heartpounding Suspense

The Haunted Museum: The Titanic Locket by Suzanne Weyn is an amazing beginning to a great new series for young readers! What begins as a simple family vacation for sisters, Samantha and Jessica, quickly becomes an action packed mystery complete with frightening spirits who have returned to the Titanic 2 to take care of some "unfinished business". But will this become the end of Samantha and Jessica? Will they share the same awful fate as the passengers of the original Titanic? Weyn has created an amazing suspense-filled story with unexpected twists and turns, as well as heart-pounding spookiness, that left me guessing until the very end. Filled with a bit of mystery, romance, creepy ghosts, and intriguing history, this story is sure to capture the imagination of any young reader. An excellent story and fast-paced thriller to encourage young readers to further explore the history of the Titanic and its array of passengers. I loved this book and look forward to the next installment, The Haunted Museum #2: The Phantom Music Box to be released August 26th, 2014. FIVE stars!

A Haunted Adventure

The Haunted Museum is part of Scholastic's Hauntings book series. I already have another book from this group in my pile.

Jessica and Samantha are on the Titanic 2 - a replica ship. The girls even get to dress in clothes from 1912.

The story contained some historical information on the original Titanic - it's layout, passengers, and occurrences as the ship was sinking. I personally was hoping for more, but I feel middle grade readers will find it just right. The mystery is fun. There are creepy ghosts and a cute boy. Perfect. More info on the ship's grandeur and it's movement through the water would have added to the story's atmosphere - sadly these were not presented.

I feel this would be a nice title for female readers who enjoy historical settings. The ghost scenes are not too scary. It may entice young readers to research the Titanic - a good thing.

Definitely Scary

The rules are simple. You aren't supposed to touch anything in the Haunted Museum. There is a reason for that, a very scary reason. Don't touch a piece of the Titanic right before you take a cruise on the new Titanic replica ship. Sisters Samantha and Jessica learn that the hard way, and learn a lot more than they thought they would about that fateful ship.

This was a very quick read. I would give it to second through fifth graders that like scary stories. I picked it up because I like all things Titanic. In that aspect, I was somewhat disappointed. There really wasn't enough Titanic for me. Just because a child likes the Titanic doesn't mean they will enjoy this book. It really is mostly just a scary story. It was a good scary story. Kids will definitely like it. I can already see myself passing this one along to any child that wants scary stories. It will surely be a great series all around.

A fun read and I recommend it to romance and adventure series buffs.

Jennifer who hasn’t felt very well, resolves to go along on the extravagant escapade, an excursion over the Atlantic in her sister’s fiancés private jet. Greyson proposed to Bethany and arranged the trip. It just worked out Tracy was requested to participate in the Art de Magnifigance exhibition at the renowned Annonciade Museum in France, at the same time. Jennifer’s, terrible at holding relationships and gets paranoid she can’t keep a man. She decides to do what it takes to keep one, even if it means taking a guy from one of her sisters. She ends up going for Blaze, the good-looking, undercover agent, who in recent times saved The Sea View from devastation. But there’s a bit of a problem; Blaze is head over heels for Tracy and makes a surprise visit to France to see her. Blazing Love, is a tangled ball of thread that only gets more knotted up with tumultuous episodes. It’s an adventure, linking forgotten relations, noble descendants and treachery. A fun read and I recommend it to romance and adventure series buffs.

A bit of everything: mystery, romance, suspense and sex.

I really enjoyed reading this story. It takes us from Texas to the south of France and gives a bit of everything: mystery, romance, suspense and sex. Actually I was surprised at the graphic description of the erotic encounters between the two couples in the story and felt that they didn’t really fit into the atmosphere of the rest of the book. Mind you, I am no prude, but you don’t expect Sherlock Holmes to jump in bed with a dame and read in detail what they are doing in their intimate encounter. It just isn’t that kind of story. Luckily, these sex encounters are brief and few and I quickly skipped over them in order to continue reading the story which has a happy ending, something that I like. If you are looking for a short novel that you can read in one evening, this may be just what you are looking for.

I enjoyed book 2 of the Carlisle sisters just as much as I did the first; maybe more. Grey and Beth make a great duo. As does Blaze and Tracy. Great twist with the villain in this story.

During one of his recent Factor programs, Bill O'Reilly announced that his new book with Martin Dugard is entitled "Killing the Rising Sun: How America Vanquished World War II Japan." This book specifically examines the Pacific Theater, and it places special emphasis and focus on the painstaking analysis, difficult judgement calls, and crucial tactical decisions which formulated the strategy that ultimately brought about the defeat of Imperial Japan by the United States and its Allies. As has been the case with their previous historical works, Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard have written a truly outstanding book, which is decidedly informative, gripping, and thought-provoking, and which provides a unique perspective on the pivotal events of the Pacific Campaign. They employ a very straightforward and conversational style of writing, which most readers find candid and engaging. In addition, they make this incredibly harrowing and horrific war experience very real for their readers, by including numerous back stories and personal experiences of the actual Marines, Army Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen who served in the Pacific Campaign, along with many vivid accounts of the unimaginable suffering endured by the civilian victims of this tragic conflict. My Father was in the 41st and did not speak a great deal about his 4 years but did tell me it was a ravaging time for him and the men that fought these battles. I always felt he tried his best to forget many of his actions. He died at the age of 93 in 2012, so I never really questioned him about the South Pacific and was very happy to read this riveting story. I now understand (somewhat) why he did not want to talk much about his "days in the War" and the unspeakable atrocities that were committed by both sides. Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard do quite a thorough job describing these battles. This was a very good read for me but it was also heartbreaking to read of all the death and destruction the war and the bomb provided.

I highly recommended this book to my family

This was an outstanding, no-nonsense account of what took place in the Pacific theatre during WW II. I highly recommended this book to my family, and friends. Agree with the many that had said it does read like a novel with such vivid accounts that transports one to the scene. Full of excellent historical information with tons of references to boot which was a big help for those that are curious to gain even more insights. An awesome book.
