About the Author
After spending fifteen years in the U.S. as a venture capitalist on Wall Street, Wu Jing-Nuan returned to Asia to train in healing modalities. He has studied and been associated with Dhammasaro Bhikku, Yang Chia, and Professor Hsu Hung. Wu has been in private practice in Washington, D.C., since 1973 and is the founder of the Taoist Health Institute, which provides both traditional and modern medical services.

Sadly the best version in English

The original Ling Shu is an invaluable resource for any Chinese Medicine Doctor. This translated version is a decent reference when looking for point prescriptions and more streamlined treatments than modern TCM.
The problem is readability. The author's way of translating is totally inconsistant with common sense. Most TCM books will give you the number of a point (for those who can't read Chinese) the pinyin and occasionally the original characters so you can check the translation. Here the author gives the English name for every point. This makes it difficult because no one studies them this way and all the major reference books(CAM, Deadman, Maciocia) aren't indexed for English point names.
In addition there are several times when the author uses the transliteration of Chinese anatomy instead of using a standard English term or Latin for for the body part. He talks about "broken dish" which may or may not be collar bone. It would have taken thirty seconds to look it up if I had the original characters, but since none were given I just have to guess. Guessing is not a good way to figure out where to put needles.
If there were more translations of this book I'd happily throw this book in the trash I'd happily throw it away, but until that time I'll keep reading. I'd give it an even 2.5 stars if it were possible.

Could be better

Considering this is one of the only translations of the Ling Shu into English, I would be forced to say that this is one of the best translations, however, when comparing the text to the original Chinese, the author takes many liberties in translation. He takes very sparsely written Chinese and expands it greatly by filling in copious subjective interpretation as to what the Chinese may be talking about. I think it's a great title to have in a Chinese Medicine library, however, I would caution the reader against taking this text as a literal translation of the Ling Shu.

Dr. Wu Jing-Nuan's book, "Ling Shu or The Spiritual Pivot" is perhaps one of the best English translations on the "Ling Shu" classical text. Being the second part of the "Huang Di Nei Jing" text, (a standard for understanding Asian Traditional Medicines), the "Ling Shu" expresses some of the most compelling aspects of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. I consider this text "a must read" for any serious student of Chinese Traditional Medicine.
